COVID-19 Second Wave : Statement from Chief Executive

Dear friends,

Greetings from Seva Mandir. We sincerely hope that you, your family, and your colleagues are in good health and safe.

The present wave of Covid-19 has the entire nation in its grip. The state of Rajasthan is under strict lockdown till May 17. Udaipur and parts of southern Rajasthan are severely impacted. Unlike last year, this time the rural region has been hit hard, and large numbers of patients are reported from the villages.

A considerable number of our staff and their families have gone down with Covid since the last week of March. We closed our offices in mid-April, and only a few essential activities in livelihoods, nutrition, and others were continued in the field and were carried out with minimal local movements. Covid-19 has spread deeper into the villages in the last weeks. Therefore, giving the safety and morale of staff, village volunteers, and community leaders priority, we have decided to suspend all field operations for two weeks till May 17th.

We have ensured that all colleagues return home safely to be with their families in this uncertain period.During this medical emergency, Seva Mandir team continues to work remotely. We are working closely with health experts and organizations to understand needs and provide responses. Rural patients struggle with home isolation and treatment close to home. An immediate and pressing need is to provide access to reliable information, counter dangerous myths regarding vaccination and treatment, and provide other support. We are well placed to deliver this through our wide network of volunteers and community institutions. The further assessment of needs in areas of food, safety equipment, care, counseling, and referral is being carried out continuously in consultation with communities and local institutions.

With your help, we were able to give communities the support they needed to withstand the challenges brought by Covid last year. We now need to adapt and extend our efforts to mitigate the impacts of the present crisis. We once again count on your support.

We will do our best to keep you updated on the evolving situation and actions we are taking.

Hoping for a better tomorrow, and that you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy.
